Faith Without Works Is Dead

One day God shook me. I started thinking about all the time I spend in the Word and all the days that I go to church and I am not exercising the Word that I am taking in, in certain areas in my life. So I want to do for you what He is doing for me. The Word says, “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). So what are we doing with the faith that is coming? If you are like most – nothing. We seem to be waiting for something magical to happen. It is not going to happen; we have to do something with the Word that we are hearing.

James 2:26 says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also”. Most of the Body of Christ is walking around with dead faith. So what do we do to get out of this pattern? I am glad you asked. We have to realize that we are spirit beings, that have a soul, and live in a body. Spirit beings cannot, or I should say must not operate out of their soul or be govern by their bodies. Because we are spirit beings, we have to live by every word that proceeds out the mouth of God, (Matthew 4:4).

When issues arise in our lives we have to act on the Word and not give into the lies that the enemy is presenting to us. We have to know that God cannot lie; and if we know that God cannot lie, then that voice talking to the soulish (or our mind) part of our makeup is lying to us. For example, if you have a bill that comes in and you don’t have the money in the natural to pay for it, what is the first thing that you should do? Go to the Word for your answer. God’s Word says, But my God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, (Philippians 4:19). When you read that scripture carefully, you will see that God will not supply your need according to your bank account, or the lack of one, but by His RICHES in glory by Christ Jesus.

When I think of God’s riches in heaven, the first thing that comes to my mind is that the saints in heaven are walking on streets of gold. So what is it for Him to pay off a bill; it is like a drop of water in an ocean. As I stated previously we have to know who we are; spirit beings that can trust in the Word of God. He will not disappoint us and He will not put us to shame, (Romans 10-11). The next time you hear a Word (that quickens your spirit), whether it is from your pastor on Sundays, or your own personal time with God, don’t be a hearer only, deceiving your own self; be a doer also and be blessed in all your ways, (James 21-25). Ask God to teach you how to work the Word and He will do just that.
