Understanding our Positioning in the Promises of God

“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7

When God breathed into the newly created Adam and he became a living soul that was the day we all became a seed possibility. When you take your next breath, know that you are still breathing from that first source of God breathing into Adam. When God breathed into him, all human beings and all generations that were stored in the seed of Adam were activated to future life that day.

Do you want to know the source of all that concerns you? Look to Adam and see what God promised. When we look at the epic story that unfolded, we have to be cognizant of the fact that we were present that momentous day that Adam became a living soul. When Adam fell, we all fell. How was that possible you say? It’s possible because when Adam was created He was created with the seed of all humans already in him. When he is cursed, it befalls not just him, but his seed (generations). God then makes a promise that He will provide a deliverer that would reverse the curse through the seed of the woman. “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15. Women don’t have seed, thus this scripture prophesied the virgin birth that was necessary to bypass the cursed seed of the man.

In the lineage of men that followed Adam and then Noah, God chose Abraham to bring the promised deliverer seed into the world. “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He said not, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ.” Galatians 3:16. This second Adam will reverse the curse of the first Adam and allow the blessings of God to fall on mankind. Just as we were cursed with Adam because we were in him, we are blessed in Christ because we are in Him.

Our status of being cursed was brought about by our positioning in Adam even before we were born into our generation. Likewise, our status of being blessed is brought about by our positioning in Christ as heirs according to the promise made to the seed of Abraham. Our assurance of being heirs according to the promise given to Abraham comes from Galatians 3:29 which says, “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

I said all of that so that we can understand our positioning in the promises of God. It is unmerited, unearned positioning; which is the definition of grace. Understanding our positioning is critical in order for us to access our available blessings. The scripture says, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 1:20.

As we begin to unpack the promises of God may we always be conscious of our positioning in Christ.
